1. The prevailing medical view of depression:
In this section, I set out the medical view of depression in detail, so that you can really understand how depression is generally understood by doctors.
2. A critique of the prevailing view of depression:
In this section, I discuss the validity of the main aspects of the prevailing medical understanding of depression. As with all of the material in this course, within this section your understanding of what doctors call 'depression' will be greatly increased.
3. A more comprehensive understanding of depression:
In this section, I set an understanding of depression that fully takes account a far more comprehensive understanding of depression than that provided within the standard medical view. This extra information is based upon what people diagnosed with depression actually experience - their inner world - and fully taked into account the emotional and psychological aspects of depression, something that is often skimmed over within the medical approach to depression.
